Every year we see an increased interest in container gardening. Containers, whether planted with evergreens or ornamental grasses for height and texture, or annuals for colour, add style to your surroundings.
Tips for container planting:
 | Use a quality light weight planting mix that accepts water and drains easily |
| Mix slow release fertilizer in planting mix |
| Choose quality plants for the correct sun or shade exposure |
| Fertilize with water soluble fertilizer every seven to ten days |

Pennisetum glaucum ‘Purple Majesty’ Purple Majesty Ornamental Millet Ht: 1.2m. Sp: Annual
Full Sun for best colour. This exotic looking All America Selections Gold Medal Winner has dark purple leaves topped with purple cat tail-like plumes. A real standout in the garden. Plumes are good for drying. Combine with other exotic leafed plants such as Castor Bean Plant Ricinus and Canna or with yellow flowers for a knockout combination.

Full Sun. Large yellow blooms with paler yellow tips. Green centre. Strong stems make ‘Prairie Sun’ a great flower for cutting. Attracts butterflies to the garden.

Full Sun. It’s green & silver foliage with a burgundy, V shaped marking, lends itself beautifully to container plantings. Dark red stems root where they touch the ground. Small, pale pink flowers bloom July – September. Also makes a nice groundcover. Can be invasive.

| Bring containers of various sizes together for more impact. For small containers (10" & under), keep it simple. Use only one or two varieties of smaller growing plants such as 3 plants of showstopper cherry flair impatiens, Pansy Ultima Baron Merlot Bronze (for Shade to part shade or Fantasy Mini Petunias or Wizard Golden Sun Coleus for sun (many of the newer varieties of coleus do take the full sun. Try planting three Blue Angel Salvia or Lady in Red Salvia in a pot to give a patio tub gathering height. Supertunias also work well in hanging baskets using this planting scheme. They are vigorous growers & heavy feeders, so don’t plant too many per container and remember to fertilize, fertilize, fertilize. |  |
